Mike McCarthy shared some great praise for rookie receiver CeeDee Lamb.
The Dallas Cowboys decided to continue focusing on the offense in the 2020 NFL Draft by taking receiver CeeDee Lamb with the No. 17 overall pick. He made his debut in Week 1 at the age of 21 and is the team’s second-leading receiver through two games.
Lamb does not appear to be having any sort of rookie struggles and that comes without even having a preseason. His head coach in Mike McCarthy recently spoke on how mature Lamb is during his first season.
Cowboys got it right with CeeDee Lamb
The Cowboys are lucky to be 1-1 right now. Week 2 saw the Atlanta Falcons have yet another legendary collapse that got the Cowboys back to .500. Lamb led his team with 101 receiving yards in the game and was targeted nine times.
The rookie was thrown right into the offense and forms a dominant trio alongside Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup. All three have over 100 receiving yards, but all sit with zero touchdowns through two games.
Blake Jarwin going down with a season-ending injury opened up the offense a bit more in terms of targets. Tight end Dalton Schultz has gotten his fair share in place of Jarwin, but the receivers should not be targeted even more. That means Lamb will have even more opportunities to prove himself.
McCarthy coming out and sharing such praise for Lamb after two weeks shows the Cowboys got it right. They saw the receiver shine at Oklahoma and took a chance on him over other top prospects. The sample size is small, but the move appears to have given the offense a huge boost and takes away any drama surrounding the receiving corps. The remaining drama all has to do with Dak Prescott’s future in town.
